Random Ramblings from a Manic Mommy

I’m NOT perfect and THAT’S Okay!

First of all I lets start with I love my kids more than life itsself they are the reason I keep going (them and my husband) but since I had my youngest I’ve been an emotional roller coaster and I HATE it there are periods I feel amazing I feel happy, I feel beautiful, I feel like everything is amazing I feel on top of the world then, then it turns into a period like I’ve been having the past few days , the reason I haven’t wrote in a few days, where I feel useless, worn out, depressed, like everything is falling apart I get extremely distant quit talking to people shutting myself out from the world and I honestly try stopping it from happening and try keeping myself from shutting people out but its inevitable I do it even if I try not too… I’m far from perfect and my kids always come first so I try to pick myself up and push through it I try and Do what I can even though all the motivation and drive feels like its been sucked out of me. Honestly this is no way to live and I need to take charge and change it I know I need to push past my anxiety of talking on the phones and call my Doctor I am able to do it if its for my children I should be able to do it for myself too! I NEED to do it not only for the sake of myself but for my family too! There is a history of bipolar in my family and I’m thinking that might be part of my problem …. living with mental illness like anxiety has already been rough and its time for me to get the actual help I need instead of trying to just “cope” with it like I’ve been able to until I had my youngest I dont know what Triggered or whats changed dont know if the near death experience or losing so much blood affected me some way but I know since I had my youngest everything has been harder on me from the nightly anxiety attacks to the mood swings to the depression to the nightmares but I know its time for this mama to get help! Living with a mental illness no matter what it is, is extremely rough…. Dont be like me and think you can handle it on your own do’nt make youself struggle ask for help.

Talk to your doctor, call a suicide hot line, talk to a friend or even message me! (I wish I had more friends I can actually talk to probably wouldn’t be rambling on , on here if I did ) Don’t make yourself struggle! Get real help, learn real coping methods, and if those methods don’t work find medication that works for you the point is get help for YOU!

Now hopefully when I talk to Doctors we can find some breastfeeding safe medication! Cause I don’t think personally I could not give up breastfeeding! But that’s just me!

ps sorry if there are a bunch of errors I’ll fix them when I’m not half asleep, am on the computer and its not 3 am

10 Car Seat Safety Tips you wanna know!

Hey Everyone  I had a friend ask to make a post about car seat safety so here it goes.

So I’m just gonna say it … I’M A CAR SEAT SAFETY NUT! Car seat safety is one of the most important things to be up to date on when you are a parent! So I’m gonna give some tips on how to keep your little ones safe!

For REAR FACING straps MUST to be AT or BELOW shoulder level. For FORWARD FACING straps need to be AT or ABOVE shoulder level.

HARNESS needs to be SNUG! Do the PINCH TEST at childs SHOULDERS try and PINCH the harness if you CAN PINCH the HARNESS it IS NOT TIGHT ENOUGH! tighten till you CAN NOT PINCH ANY SLACK!

REAR FACE TILL AT LEAST 2 YEARS OLD AND NO BOOSTERS TILL 5-6 YEARS OLD! Forward facing before 2 puts your child at risk for more injuries than keeping them rear facing such as broken legs, broken neck, and worst of all internal decapitation. Children aren’t mature enough to sit properly 100% of the time and need to stay harnessed till around 5-6 years old and should be in a booster till they are old enough and mature enough to keep the seat belt across them properly and sit properly.

NO AFTER MARKET PRODUCTS ADDED TO YOUR CARSEATS. This means no added strap covers, no aftermarket cute car seat covers, no aftermarket head rests. ANYTHING that comes BETWEEN YOUR CHILD and the HARNESS or YOUR CHILD and THE CAR SEAT is a BIG NO NO! If you need extra support rolled up receiving blankets on either side of baby is perfectly fine not over the top of head though just like this.

DO NOT USE LOWER ANCHOR LATCH AND SEAT BELT AT THE SAME TIME! When installing your car seat you want to only use one or the other never both. Car seat techs will tell you to look at it this way its like wearing your contacts or glasses they work great when wearing one or the other but when you wear both at the same time they don’t work so well.

NEVER BUY a CARSEAT USED. you never know the history whether they gate checked car seat, the seat was in an accident, if the seat was treated or cleaned properly or anything else. Which if the car seat was cleaned improperly it can compromise the safety of your seat, or if it was gate checked you don’t know how they handled the car seat it was likely thrown around like other luggage. Buying a used car seat is like putting your child’s life in someone else’s hands and lets face it in this day and age you never know who you can trust and if they are just out to make a buck.

READ YOUR MANUAL FOR CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS FOR YOUR CAR SEAT BEFORE CLEANING and NEVER SUBMERGE YOUR HARNESS STRAPS. Certain cleaners and submerging your harness straps can weaken the integrity of your straps which can cause them to fail in an accident.

NEVER GATE CHECK A CAR SEAT ON AN AIRPLANE ALWAYS BUY A SEAT FOR BABY AND BRING YOUR SEAT ON BOARD AND USE IT. Gate checking your car seat can result in an unknown history also can result in it being lost or damaged they treat your car seat just like any other luggage… baby needs their own seat on the plane lap babies are a potential projectile in the case of a runway accident or turbulence and baby could end up hurt or hurting someone else if a coffee pot on a plane needs to be strapped in so does your baby.

5 Ways to Increase Milk Supply

Hey Breastfeeding Mamas

One thing we all know and have experienced (most of us anyways) is the feeling as if we aren’t producing enough or worrying that our babies aren’t getting enough of our Mommy milk. We’ve all had the comments from others that make us question our bodies and their ability to nourish our babies, the comments like “Is She/he really eating again?”, “Baby has been attached to you for a long time, is that normal?”, and the “Why does your baby eat so often?” and there are many, many more comments that make us question and worry. So before I start with ways to increase our supplies I want to reassure some of you and let you know what is in the normal range, cause we all know normal isn’t the same for every baby.

It is normal for your newborn baby to eat pretty much ALL the time! as long as they are getting 6 or more wet/ poopy diapers and it can take them up to at least 2 weeks to get back to their normal birth weight. They have tiny tiny tummies and on top of that breastmilk digests faster than formula cause their little bodies are made to digest breastmilk, so typical breast fed newborn will eat any where from every 30 minutes to 3 hrs. Then we have the random growth spurts where they start to cluster feed and feed all the time that people  don’t always tell you about and THEY ARE NORMAL and they will pass in a few days just keep feeding. When baby is a bit older like 2+ months as long as they are gaining weight and having 6+ wet/poopy diapers YOU ARE MAKING ENOUGH! Well lets get on to some ways to INCREASING your supply!

Breastfeeding is all about SUPPLY and DEMAND. The more your body thinks it needs to produce, the more it will produce. Pumping after feeding baby will tell your body baby needs more milk. This way may take a few days but you will notice an increase in supply if you keep at it. Also Power pumping pump for 15 min stop for 10 min then pump again then stop do this for 2 hrs and it will act as if baby is cluster feeding and help trigger your body to produce more.

2. Suppliments

My Favorite one is Fenugreek its inexpensive and you see results fairly quickly! WARNING: YOU WILL SMELL LIKE MAPLE SYRUP ( that’s how you know you are taking enough!). I have found that the best dosage for me that shows results over night which is 2-3 capsules 3 times a day. A few other supplements that have been known to improve supply are brewers yeast and flax seed. Mothers milk tea is another good one that some people like, I cant stand the taste of it myself it tastes like black licorice. So if you like Black licorice, Mothers milk tea is awesome at helping improve supply!

Its is very important that you drink enough fluids! A good rule of thumb is to drink a glass of water ever time you nurse, and keeping a water bottle with you at all times is a good idea. You don’t have to drink only water either juice, tea or whatever you prefer works too as long as you are staying Hydrated it will help you keep you supply up. I’ve noticed when I drink more water than I usually do during the day and through the night then by the next morning I am engorged and leaking!

4. Foods that Increase supply!

Certain foods are known to increase supply such as oatmeal, nuts ,dried fruits, dark leafy veggies and carrots are just a few I can think of off the of my head. One of my favorite though is Lactation Cookies! I mean who doesn’t love cookies? My favorites are oatmeal chocolate chip and oatmeal raisin! Mmmm! Good thing about lactation cookies is everyone can eat them too! Heres a Recipe!

3 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
1 1/2 cups  all-purpose flour
5 tablespoons brewers yeast
3 tablespoons ground flaxseed
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
12 tablespoons butter
4 tablespoons unrefined organic virgin coconut oil
1 1/2 cups  sugar
2 large eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 cup chocolate chips/chunks (I like toll house)

You can also open up 4-5 capsules of fenugreek and add that too for the extra boost!

Preheat the oven the 350 degrees F.

In a large bowl, Mix together the oats, flour, yeast, flaxseed, baking powder, soda, and salt.

In the bowl, beat the butter and coconut oil on medium speed until creamy. Add in the sugar and beat on medium to high speed until fluffy, about 5 minutes, scraping down the sides of the bowl when needed. Add in the eggs, beating until combined, about 2 to 3 minutes. Add in the vanilla extract and beat until combined again.  Gradually add in the dry ingredients, beating on low speed until just combined and mixed. Stir in the chocolate chips with a spatula until they are evenly dispersed.

Scoop the dough into 1-inch rounds ( use an ice cream scoop) and place on a baking sheet about 2 inches apart. Bake for 10 to 14 minutes, or until the bottoms are just golden!

5. Feed on demand!

Exactly as it is! DON”T watch the CLOCK! Feed baby as soon as baby shows signs of being hungry. Let baby comfort nurse! as long as baby is suckling its telling your body that it needs to produce more milk!

Hope Everyone Enjoys this Post and that its helpful! These are all things I’ve done that have helped me I’m currently breastfeeding my 4th baby we are 7 months strong so far and hoping to make it to 2 years old like we did with his older sister!
